1: This is a Family Site that means:
__ a: No sexually explicit pictures or avaters.
__ b: No vulgar profanity. (Keep it PG)
__ c: No personal insults (Argue the point, not the person.)

2: Keep all political/religious debates civil. Different viewpoints are good. Hating someone for that different is bad.

5: If you don't like guns or shooting hobbies, go somewhere else! There are other places to go that feel that way and would love you to join them. Let us enjoy our hobby!

6: Have fun! You're here to relax and enjoy yourself. Keep it light and don't get caught up in the gun-smoke!

Again many site have been complaining about this and yet again the head freeforums guy says its fixed.

If it acts up again let me know.

I'm also thinking of dropping the chat on Thursday to see if that makes any difference. (I'll put it back up on Friday)

Sounds like a good plan. If it makes a difference I can live without the chat.

But your poll needs to have an addendum to the choices.... As in "stay with Free froums IF it gets fixed by X or Y"....... :?

I don't chat so that's not a big deal to me, however, lots of folks do.
Since I've been here, it seems to be going alright. A bit slow, in the relative sense, from throttles I assume, but usable none the less.
Our new style does seem to scroll somewhat slowly, but the others available don't have that issue, so it's within the style choice, not the host.
The default style is pretty "heavy", so it takes a bit of time to render and update.

As an answer to the question of saving the config., no we cannot at this point. Backup and restore is not an option currently.
In reference to the poll question, if we stay, options are available to do that and other things, but then it's not a free host anymore.
Only if I were guaranteed an increase in bandwidth, would I spend the money for the upgrades.
It's much simpler to move to an advanced hosting site.
Here it costs $15.00/year to buy the domain name. $30.00/year for the recovery console. $5.00/month for ad removal.
Just those upgrades are $105.00/year, and you have the same bandwidth issues, throttles, etc.
For $60/year, you can move to this, or for a bit more, this for example.

The first choice to me would be the next step. Though they don't offer FTP, most of what I see available, will suffice here for quite some time I think.

I honetly don't miss the chat. It was nice to instantly see who was on line and to get instant feed back on what was going on with everyone. But at the same time we were losing active posting with good info on members and their toys. :?

Plus the site seems to move much faster these days.

As far as moving to a pay site for more capability's............ You already know Ulmus that I'll help with that if I can.
But I think my main motivation for that right now would be more exposure for our site name.
IE: a more recognizable HRR name that would show up in searches easier.

Buying a domain is the key here.
Gunslinger.freeforums.org (free) is not the same as Gunslinger.com (paid)
Some hosts will give you the .com as an inclusion of the service.

I can assure you that Gunslinger.com will show on a search, and searching for heritage firearms will show it as well if done correctly.

Ah, I see. I thought since it didn't have "Heritage" in the name that it might not show up? :?
Shows how smart I am!

So it's only $15.00 for the name?

From here as an upgrade, yes.
In ACP under the upgrade tab. Shows all they offer here and the costs.
Though there already is a gunslinger.com if you search it specifically, a simple append to the name should work if they say gunslinger is not available.

Once you have the .com, search bots will index it.
Just like you find threads (sites) like THR, youtube, and others while searching "heritage rough rider".
If you want to be first on the "hit list" if you will, then yes, the name should reflect something like "heritage firearms forums.com""hff.com" or something like that, but only specific searches for the name will show up first.
Again, though, no matter the name, it will be index to this site and be found in searches much more easily.
