I installed the new grips this morning. They look better than the plain maple. It should stop raining in a couple of days and I'll get back to the range & try them out. The big holster holds my RR, the other has a NAA mini. The mini is a tough gun to shoot well, but it can be done. The belt and holsters are home made. Mr. Pearl is also home made. I wanted something to see what my stuff looked like on me with out looking in the mirror all the time. He is a proof of idea and good enough to put a smile on those who have seen him. The hat is a Bowler and from Clearwater Hats. If you want a hat that fits right and is comfortable, check them out.

What? You didn't make the hat yourself?

Seriously, you have talent. Good job on the grips, belt, and "Mr. Pearl."

cmh2tx: when I was 20 I planned to live until I was 40. Any time after that was a bonus. I've been on bonus time for quite awhile and was able to retire last year. Now I finally got some time to play with my daughters, my tools and guns. Hat making could be in the future. Life is good!
dangerranger: It is an expanding clamp. Pushes out instead of in. There is a real wood screw and a wooden nut that forces the 2 half wood disks apart. The wood disks have a taper of about 5 degrees. This one is the prototype so there are a few changes I'll make on the next one that will provide for a wider range of adjustments.

From reading the other posts, it looks like I got the odd ball out model. Short barrel and bird head grip are used for the patterns when making the leather and grips. I'm not sure I could make something to fit right unless I already had something real close to work from. Sometime this spring I should have a Mrs Pearl to stand by Mr Pearl. Her over the shoulder ammo belt is done. It holds 29 - 12 gauge shotgun shells and has and additional 22 loops for 45/70. She already has a matching leather waist belt and holsters for .44 and .38 Specials. I'll top her off with a purple somebrero I bought on a trip to New Mexico a few years ago. She should be quite a sight.
Thank you again: Mr Pearl

Amazing! That pic shows a ton of fine craftsmanship there! I wish they taught that in schools!

You know, if you could come up with a nice price, I bet you could sell quite a few of the statue/gunbelt holders or what ever you'd call it. Nicer than just hanging your belt on a peg.....

Right now I'm trying to clear my mind from 30 years of gover'mt work and its not easy. Being retired is the best job I've ever had. Its even easier than unemployment and I tried that in the mid 70's.
Sometime I may try something part in the near future but for the next few months I still have a few long overdue honey dues to do and some skills, thoughts & ideas that need dusting off.
Mr Pearl says ' There was some bad in the good old days, now there is some good in the bad economy new days'.
