Mentioned this one elsewhere but with levers on the table thought I'd put it here too.

Ruger short throw(and that's no kidding) lever ,rotary mag 22wmr. $330-$350 around here. Back in production in 22wmr and now in17 hmr. Think we'll see these used with the hicap mags?
Also, has anyone seen the new Mossberg 464 22? I saw one recently and (my opinion only) Henry has nothing to fear. The gun was, I thought less well finished than a standard Henry and less slick of action as well. $335 on the one I saw.No shooting ,just a good look over. Blue on rec. appears to be a very dull paint.

Can't say as I like the look of the Ruger.

It looks too much like a 10/22 that's been given a lever?

That's exaclt what it is. I checked one out at the gun show and decided on the Henry. (I've yet to regret that decision.)

Haven't seen the Mossy .22 yet, but that price seems awful steep compared to a Henry.

I tend to like my levers traditional. Tube mag, exposed hammer ,you know cowboy looking. But I think that 96-22mag would be a fine candidate to scope and be a fine hunting or just woods roaming gun. The detachable mag would allow one to be ready with hollow points or fmj depending on the game encountered. The lever throw is really short and would make these a good HD gun for the highly recoil sensitive person too. You know there are hi cap mags that would work in this gun. Funky ,yes but for folks who are super sensitive to noise or kick...... one could do worse.

KB, you brought up a good point. Maybe we should think of the 96-22 as a 22 version of the Savage lever action.

Marlin made one too, Revelation I think. a cousin had one. shot great but I couldnt quite get used to the look. DR

Ye old Levermatic! Yeah, not too many folks did get used to the look , did they? Don't think Marlin made those long. But you know, they didn't make the traditional 1894M long either.
