I was looking at the shipping tag from some reloading stuff I just got, and ran some differant numbers through to see what reloads really cost.

223 Rem

the best price I could find on lead free loaded ammo.
.80 ea [or $40, for 50rds.]

reloaded but just bought the min amount of each component.
.49 ea

reloaded but bought at bulk quantitys[ 8lbs powder, 5000bullits, etc]
.27 ea

the biggest differance between the bulk and min order was the haz mat charge. its the same ammount for min or max orders.

Im thinking I need to form a local buyers club! DR

Yeah, sometimes the savings seem a bit marginal. The main reason I got into reloading was to be able to shoot when market or legal conditions make commercial ammo unobtainable.

You need to buy in bulk Mr! And does your ammo "have" to be lead free? :hmmmm:

Yeah, I live in the lead free zone :sad1: the only maker right now is Barnes and they are almost double the leaded price. I looked into buying a swaging setup and making myown lead frees. but that is expencive. around $1000. altho I could sell everything I make. DR

Good old Kali I guess? :?

So is it a city ordinance or state law that keeps everything lead free? Or the shooting range you go to?

Its a federal judges order. in the area of central and southern CA. It follows the CA condores area + a couple of hundred miles. I live in the NE end of it. I was in a couple of LGS today, and both have quit selling reloading supplys. when I ask why [ first I got dirty looks] they both said that the supplyers had backordered so many of their orders that they were priced out of the market. the suppliers were sending only small orders with each costing another Haz Mat fee. one said that he ordered 250 lbs of powder and got only 1lb with a Haz Mat fee of $25,a shipping fee of $10, and $3.99 handling fee. the $16 lb of powder now cost $55 before any profit! I got my latest order in the other day and the only backorder was 2000 large pistol primers. I think Ill call and cancel till I need another order :groan: DR
