Forum rules

As with any great game there are rules.

1: This is a Family Site that means:
__ a: No sexually explicit pictures or avaters.
__ b: No vulgar profanity. (Keep it PG)
__ c: No personal insults (Argue the point, not the person.)

2: Keep all political/religious debates civil. Different viewpoints are good. Hating someone for that different is bad.

3: No "smack-talk" of someone elses gun. Every gun is a Heirloom to it's owner.

4: No spamming or fly-by-night sales. This isn't free-advertising.com! Go sell your stuff somewhere else.

5: If you don't like guns or shooting hobbies, go somewhere else! There are other places to go that feel that way and would love you to join them. Let us enjoy our hobby!

6: Have fun! You're here to relax and enjoy yourself. Keep it light and don't get caught up in the gun-smoke!

I've noticed that many gun forum sites have a plce to buy, sell, or trade.

While I like the idea, I have no clue what the liability is for me and, more importantly, I'm so new to running a forums that I don't want any hacker coming in and getting any identity information from any of you. (I'm sure that free forums.org has firewalls and other security features built into their software, but I want to play it safe.)

So if you want to PM/IM or e-mail eachother with things to sell or swap, that's fine. Just let me talk to some other Administrators/Moderators of other sites before I add this.

I just want to keep everyone safe from hackers.

to be honest, as much as I use the B/S/T forums on other sites I visit, Not having one tends to keep out people who will only show up for that. There's a fellow I've seen who uses the same username everywhere (like I do) who always has things listed for sale on seemingly every forum I visit, but I've yet to see him participate in a discussion or thread other than the B/S/T.

I hear ya ab4ka....I have other forums I use that try and utilize "post minimums" to keep people from coming in and only uising the trading posts. But that doesn't work either, since they'll post whore the 25 or 50 posts it takes and then go into the trading section and post their wares. :?

I would think users like that are not so bad, as long as there wares are in line with the board topics. Gun board, only gun related items. No Viagra, car parts, misc junk, etc. And let that area be the domain of a specific moderator. Delete all off topic posts the first time, ban the sucker the second.

I don't have a problem with it either Hou..... If they have something to sell and it's an up and up deal then why not let 'em?
Besides using a post count to try and make them known to other members for "safety" reasons is just silly IMO.
25 or 50 posts isn't gonna tell you a dang thing if you ask me.

If you guys really want to start a trading post we can bring it to Ulmus and see what he thinks?

Well, it would definitely be guns only. No Cars, Houses, Wives and such. (Horses maybe.)

Would you want it to be just Heritage or other types as well?

Oh, and any bid would be considered a contract to buy said gun. No bidding then dropping out just to mess with people.

I'd say anything that's gun related would be OK?
And I agree with the rule of once you say "I'll take it"....It's yours!
Barring unforeseen issue's of course.

And who in the heck is gonna bid on another wife!?!? lol
the person offering her would have to pay!

I don't see why it wouldn't work, and I do like the idea of keeping it gun related (although some folks idea of gun related can stretch a bit far).

Well even if it did get "stretched a bit far".....It can still be moderated if need be.
But on the other hand, as small as we are it wouldn't be a big deal here I don't think?
It's when a site gets really big that it becomes more of an issue IMO.

I gotta say, you guys convinced me.

I just put up the Trading Post and put in the usual "shouldn't have to say, but better/Common sense" rules down as a sticky.

So lets see what you guys are selling.

I might also add that you can make the forum invisible to only those that, you as staff, agree to let in. The post minimum can be beaten obviously, but you can, if you want the extra effort, make it a "members" only type thing for the time being.
There are folks out there that only join to sell what they have in an effort to negate the fees imposed by the auction sites, and hope the folks on the boards are less "informed" of the prices the ask.
Not to sound negative, but it happens, simple as that.

As said above: Now only logged in members can even see the trading post exists.
