Dang! Dang!! Dang!!! Why does this gun have to be so good?

I was perfectly happy with my .22 combo Rough Rider, but now I'm in a quandery. My new Heritage Big Bore shoots so well that it will forever compete with my .22 for favorite range plinker.

How in the world did this happen?

I chose the Heritage Big Bore chambered in .38 Special/.457 Magnum because the price of the .38 Special round is friendlier to my wallet while the power of the .357 Magnum is more than enough for my needs.

I picked the 5.5" barrel for the balance it provides as well as the nice profile it gives the gun.

I went with the Case Hardened finish because most cowfolk bought theirs this way.

I had no clue of the tricks that Fate would play upon me.

I didn't expect the cylinder to spin as smoothly as a paddle wheel moving down Ol' Miss.

I never thought the finish would glem so nicely in the sunlight.

I didn't think that the legnth of the barrel would create the exact amount of wieght to make sooting .38 Special rounds enjoyable!

I did not expect to have this much fun!

I went through 50 rounds of 130 grain .38 special like it was rimfire! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Each connection rocked the revolver in my hand like a freindly handshake.

Every shot built up my confidense with the gun. But where did the lead go? I was aiming at a big 8 inch target but couldn't find one hit. I know that at 25 yards with no rest, I was "learning" the gun at a good distance, but I can't see the the holes.

Wait a minute!

I found them. Over to the left and down on the cardboard. There they are. I can also see how they moved to the right as I tired to adjust my aim without a reference point. It's just like my .22 combo. Low and to the left. I can fix that.

Aiming high and to the right, I try my last five rounds.

Bang! Just barely on the target page.

Bang! In the 7 ring.

Bang! In the 8.

Bang! In the 9.

Bang! In the 10!

Out of ammo! Oh man is this gonna be bad! I see so much more money going to ammo now.

For anyone out there thinking of buying a Heritage Big Bore, DON"T!

They're so much fun they'll rob you of all your free time! You're wife will be calling the range to get you home for supper.
You'll be torn between buying new tires for the truck or buying bricks of ammo.

These guns are too much fun!

Well, at least you had a good time. I think if I ever get one of their big bores, I'll have to go for something like the .44. I already have a 4" .357 and it is scary accurate. And if I want to shoot just for fun, I'll use my little Cobra .38. Now, sounds like you need to get into reloading to help feed your big bore.

Great review big guy!

It sounds like it's everything you had hoped it would be and more!

Did you get a chance to try any 357 through it?

Nah. time constraints stopped me from scouring every gun store in the area.

I just had that one box and it was too fun!

Sounds good!I like HouLlama's reloading advice......i need to really check into that. With a rifle and a handgun shooting the same ammo it would be the way to go.And i don't have either one yet!

Reloading can save you $, but at this time most of the components you would need are in short supply and or hard to get. Save your brass it can be reloaded lots of times if you decide to try it. I cast most of my bullets out of wheel weights. It makes reloading even cheaper.

I went to 4 different big sporting goods stores this weekend, and none of them had much of anything other than shotgun reloading supplies. :?

That sounds familiar. I'd say it's still hit and miss and will be for a few months from now till things "normalise". :dunno:

Well I took the leap and bought a used Lee Loadmaster from a friend. :scared: It's coming to me with 9 and 45 dies and a few other goodies for about 150.00. Now all I have to do is find and buy all the other accutraments such as tumbler, other dies, primers, powder, bullets, books, etc... etc... :scared: :groan:
