Posted this on the KTOG forum and thought I would post it here, too. I'm really growing fond of the little .22 Magnum cartridge since having my first, real experience with it via my Rough Rider. Of course, I realize the shorter barrel of the NAA mini won't give quite the same ballistics, but it should do pretty well as a BUG or when I can't carry anything else. Anyhow, what I posted on KTOG was:
Well, I put a used, 1 5/8 inch barreled Magnum version in lay-a-way when I stopped by my favorite LGS before coming to work earlier, today. Looks to be in really good shape. In fact, other than the finish being a little dull (just needs a bit of a polish - mostly on the barrel) and maybe a very minor scratch here or there, it looks brand new. Have been thinking about one of these for a while and three factors came together to cause me to decide to do it:
1: My P3AT is once again not operating correctly. I have one more thing I am going to try (if I can get a new barrel) and then I'm sending it home if that doesn't work. Don't know how long it will take to have it up and running, don't want to be without a small, lightweight pocket gun and like the idea of a mini-revolver as I am just about soured on small, lightweight autos,
2: This is the first 'plain' Magnum I have found, in person, with the 1 5/8 inch barrel. I know that the slight bit of extra length on the barrel probably won't make that much difference but figure that every little bit will help velocity/energy wise and
3. The price on this one (because it is used) was $169 before tax, etc. The new ones I have seen around here (all shorter barreled versions) tend to run $229 to $259.
I would like to have walked out with it, today, but with Christmas coming up, etc. I decided it would be better to pay it out over time. I'll just have to continue to 'make do' with what I have in the carry rotation until I can bring it home. I'll have pics, later, but it looks pretty much just like the 1 5/8 barrel version on this page:
http://www.naaminis.com/magnum.html I double-checked to make sure it had the 'safety notches' as I have heard that older versions didn't.
