Well, as you can see I'm new here, but wondered if any of you guys had played with this Brownell's Gun Kote. I just bought a NIB RR "shorty" a couple of weeks ago, and after getting it home, I was thoroughly digsuted with the finish. It performed perfectly at the range, and I fell in love instantly, but bare metal was showing through the paint everywhere. So.............my Boss brought me a spray can of Gun Kote, and I totally disassembled, blasted, and recoated, and Baked the whole mess, except for the cyllinders. This is how it turned out, and I'm extremely happy for now, unless it all starts coming off! I put 200rds through it this weekend, and the only problem was when I hit the bottom of the eject-port with the rim of a casing and scratched it from front to back when I was pushing it out! Oh well, learned a little there...............

I've never tried the gun kote? But from your pics it looks beautiful! :goodjob:
I'll be curious to hear how it holds up to standard blueing techniques.

Tank you Sir! If it all comes off, HA!, I think I'm gona strip it, and Satin Clear over the bare metal, it kinda had that "old cowboy" look when stripped, and I almost left it like that! :grin1:

That would be cool too! Maybe take a torch to it before you shoot it with clear to give it that case hardened look? :wink1:

By the way, is that Gun Kote an epoxy based paint?

That looks nice!

Did the oven have any paint smell residue afterwards?

Very nice indeed. :clap2:
If you do it again you may consider DuraCoat.
I know a few people that swear by it.

Ahahaaa........there IS a process to make a steel frame appear to be "Case Hardened", that is chemically done, but mine is allumium. I believe the Gun Kote must have some kind of catalyst in it that "fires" during baking, Epoxy or not, I don't know, but it is supposed to have lubricity ("molly" additives) in it, and the only way to remove it is to blast it back off. I didn't notice any real smell in the oven, and it didn't smoke or stink when baking. Bye the way......we have an oven at work that we use to heat engine parts before assembly, so that's the one I used. The Other Half would've wrung-my-neck, had I put it in the one at home! :scared: :scared: :scared:

LOL, Wrist pin ovens are the better bet for sure.

That thing looks darn good in the pics, I'll be watching here to for durability issues.
