Only 9mm,223 and 380 got really hard to find here. It all got expensive but avail. I've bought Win Super X, not Dynapoint, 22 mag for $8 a box recently. A pawn shop here had ample supplies of PMC and Armscor for under $6 until just a couple weeks ago.

The local WW here is always hit and miss. One week they have a few boxes of this but not that and next week the opposite. I go there every week to cash my payroll check (Jacka$$es at work give out checks at exactly 5:30pm :huh1: !) and immediately hit the ammo case to see whats available. One week I get 1 or 2 boxes of 22lr or mag, next week I'll get a couple boxes of 9mm. Then I'll go several weeks without seeing anything worth buying. I will say this, NOBODY around here owns .40 calibre firearms because that WW has had a full shelf of .40 S&W for about a year now!! :shocked1: Now that I have finally built my ammo supply to appr 1000rds per calibre, :notworthy: I feel I am ready to expand to other calibre weapons. I am seriosly considering buying a Taurus in .40 as well as another Hipoint carbine this time in .40!! I really wanted to wait for the Hipoint 4595 to come out, but I see that may never really happen!
Ape, Im sure you know exactly what I mean!! :cool1:

You may find you like the 40 cal very much. Guns are here now, ammo as you noticed is easy to get and it is a superb rd with many fine pts. Good penetration on harder targets is one worth noting. Of course 10mm would be the best .but............ I have an HP 4095 and like it very much. Shoots good on targets, very reliable and very low, soft recoil. They say the 995s kick or slap you but the 40 sure doesn't. Shoot a 40 at some stuff like a box full of wet magazines stacked vertically then do the same with a 9 or a 45acp. This will give some idea of what the various cals will do. I mean none of the auto rds can compare to the magnum revolver rds (except for the 10mm) but the 40 seems to come closest unless shooting 45acp with a lighter bullet at higher vel.

They had it! They had it! The WalMart near me finally had bulk .22 rounds! :clap2: and it was just $15.00 per box. Unfortunately I could only afford one box right now, but at least they had it. I saw 7 or 8 boxes on the shelf and they had sold 6 more earlier that day. (It was Thanksgiving day and the wife wanted to do some Christmas shopping. :groan: ) But atleast they had it! Yea!

And 95, you are so right about the 40 S&W rounds. Those things collect dust at wallyworld!

At my local Wally yesterday evening, they had no .22 ammo. None, nada, period. No magnums, no LR - not in bulk packs or in 50 or 100 packs - and not even any shorts. You know it's bad when the shorts are wiped out. They had one box of 9mm (Federal) and still no .38 Special, .357 Mag or .380.

I stopped into a LGS on Saturday to pick up some speed strips (not my favorite LGS - they don't have any) and there was a decent selection of ammo there. Not great, but decent. Very limited selection (like only one or two brands) of .22 Mag, though, and what they had was more expensive than I thought it should be (good thing I saw the .22 shortage coming and have a handful of mags and some LR on hand.) I did pick up a box of 7.62X54R rounds for just under 9 bucks - about the best price I have seen on them in this area, recently. There are no markings on the box, though, and the sales guys had no clue what weight or of what nationality they are - which is why I only bought one box (want to see how they shoot before buying more.) Maybe I will post a pic and see if anyone recognizes them.

Went to a gunshow yesterday and the story was pretty much the same as it has been - mostly Wally ammo mixed in with what SHOULD be other cheap ammo brands and all overpriced with a little SD ammo scattered here and there - and even more overpriced. Still very little .380. I didn't find anything I thought was a deal on firearms, either. One guy wanted $150 for a Jiminez .380. For that price, I'll just get a Hi-Point. That was the second time I have been to the show in that location. At $10 a person for admission (nearly double the admission to most shows in this area - even ones put on by the same promoters in different locations where you might actually find a few decent deals - I don't think I will be going back to that one.)

Well, based on what I have seen in just the past week or so I am going - with some hesitation - to say that we might be seeing some improvement in the ammo situation. The supplies of WWB 9mm FMJ seem to be improving at our local Walmart locations - although I haven't seen any Blazer or Federal in a while. I prefer getting the Blazer or Federal because they shoot just as well from my pistols and are generally a couple of bucks cheaper than the Winchester range fodder. Yesterday, I was in one WM location where the shelf spaces set aside for WWB 9mm FMJ in both fifty and one hundred round packs were almost full.

The variety/selection of .22LR ammo in 50 or 100 round packs seems to be improving. Bulk packs still seem to disappear within a day or two of being stocked, though.

I have seen a box or two of WWB .357 Magnum JHP in a couple of locations recently and the one I was in yesterday had nearly a full shelf. I couldn't tell you how long it has been since I saw any .357 ammo at Wally. They still had plenty of .40 S&W, which seems to have been the case all along for the most part. I've even seen a box or two of .357 Sig at a couple of different locations. The one yesterday even had one box of .44 Magnum and one box of .45 auto on the shelf!

Still no .38 Special, though. I did see some .38 Special at one not-so-local Walmart right after Christmas - a whole shelf full, in fact, probably four or five cases. Problem was, it was Winclean FMJ and the price was about double that of the regular WWB range stuff for ammo that is still, basically, range stuff.

.380? Yeah, right.

Much like .40 S&W, .25acp seems to have remained pretty well available all along with the possible exception of a week or so here and there. Comforting to know that, if all else fails, I'll still be able to feed the mighty Phoenix .25!

The rifle and shotgun ammo they carry seemed to be pretty well stocked - as I think it has been all along, for the most part.

My Wally-World had scads of 40, three boxes of 45 acp, and tons of .223, 30-30, and 30-06. No 9 or 380 and only a few boxes of 50 rimfire, but that was on Sunday.

I'll check there on Wednesday and see what the restock looks like.

Went to wallyworld (Taylorsville, NC) today with the wife for some grub, and found 11 bricks of Rem 550 Golden Bullets for $16.47 each, probably 35 or so 100rd plastic Rem GBs--didn't pay attention to their price, and 21 bricks of Fed Auto Match 325rds for $15.47. The Fed AM is becoming sort of a regular item nowadays at this store, about every 3 weeks or so. Fed 550s are somewhat hit and miss, may find 3 bricks, may find 10 bricks, same price as the GBs. None today. That's all the .22s I found. Otherwise, normal stocks of rifle and shotgun, very little handgun ammo. I didn't buy any, as I've got my 'private reserve' pretty much complete, but it doesn't stop me from drooling!

Thanks for the update. Except for that one time, I haven't seen any bulk .22 ammo lately.

Really???? Cause that's the one thing I've noticed to be back in decent amounts of late. :dunno:

I think maybe the Wally locations around here get them in, they just don't stay on the shelf long. The smaller packs (50? 100, maybe?) of CCI seem to be pretty readily available, though. With the bulk packs, the shelf might be full one day and empty a day or two later. 9mm seems to be going the same way. I hear 'rumors' of .380 and .38 Special having come in (from the Sporting Goods folks at Wally) but have yet to sight any of the elusive beasts. .22WMR supplies are sparse or nonexistant at Wally. I stopped by Gander Mountain of High Prices on Monday evening and even they only had one type of .22WMR (CCI MaxiMag +V, hadn't tried it so I bought a box) - and that's the first I've seen there in a while. Strangely, Gander had no 20 gauge buckshot, at all (just picked up a couple of old 20 gauge shotguns - I'll start a thread at some point.) 7.62X39 in less expensive brands (Wolf, etc.) is still scarce. Prices on 7.62X54R ammo seem to be rising and supplies aren't as plentiful around here, making me think I should try to get together the cash to place a bulk order before it is too late.

Hopefully things are improving but I still don't think the ammo panic - or the shortage, for that matter - are anywhere near over. At least not in my area.

I was talking to jason about this as I showed him how to clean his gun (see Bully Talk) and he told me that the Wal Mart clerk said they don't make the bulk packs anymore. :shocked1:

Why don't I believe this?

And ya might wanna tell Jason not to believe anything a WalMart sporting goods employee ever says! lol
I've heard more stories of bogus info from those guys than I can even remember.

Yep. That's what I told him. BTW: It was bulk .22 that were supposedly not in existence anymore.
