awhile back I had bought a 223 barrel to go on one of my H&R handi rifles. after I got it I found out that high pressure cartriges can only be fired on rifle frames made after 1987. all of mine are earlier than that. So when Davidsons put the BC carbine on sale I jumped on it. its in 45 long colt. it a low pressure cartrige that comes on a high pressure frame. after I got it home I swaped the frames so that I can shoot the 223 on a high pressure frame and shoot the 45 on a low pressure frame. so for $260 I got two rifles! WOHOO...

Congrats on finding a good deal!

I can't afford a Sharps copy, even in .22, but for some reason I've had the urge for quite a while for a single shot rifle strictly for fun, not hunting. The Handi Rifles intrigue me; from the enthusiasm obvious in your post, you clearly think it's a fun gun. What do you use it for?

I have a few of them, some say I have enough to be called a handi holic . in CAS they have a side match called "Plainsman". its shot with a single shot rifle, single shotgun, and a pr of cap n ball pistols. all with black powder only. its a fun inexpencive match. Im also a sucker for any single shot! I too want a creedmore rifle but the pricetag cuts me out of the running.[$2000-$4000] the next handi I want is a Buffalo Clasic in 45 70. It comes with a 32" barrel.with the addition of a long range tang sight it will be as close as Ill ever get to a creedmore rifle.

I did get a chance to shoot yesterday between rain showders. the first three shots from the 45 were touching. the 223 Im still working on a load. the first two I tried scattered the bullits around the page but the last, near a max load did well. so with some tuning that one shows some promice. Dr

Those are some nice rifles there. I really like the case hardening and the wood on the stocks.

The results on the .45 are impressive and I can't wait to see the final results on the .223. :goodjob:

Gene the case color on the 45 is real. its a low presure frame made of some kind of cast iron. the reciver on the 223 is also cast but of some steel alloy. its heat treatment hardens it to make it strong enough for high pressure cartriges, but wont allow for the case colors to be applied. Im thinking it would soften it. so they used a spray on treatment . time will tell how it holds up. DR
