Let me start out by saying I've always been a revolver guy.
So I was out today playing with my Savage rifle which has been problematic at best. So when I got done I headed down to the pistol range and got out the Heritage.

Now I've noticed that I seem to shoot the Heritage more than the other five hanguns I own of which four are DA revolvers. It's ugly, painted, touched up with peramanent marker, and yet it hits the range almost EVERY session. I've informed my wife that I'm gonna have to get several more just to test my theory :grin1:

Anyone else discover they're an SA fan?

Mike

I always shot DA revolvers. I even dated a girl who owned a SA and could not understand why anyone would even purchase one of those. Low and behold, I did! And just like Dangerranger, the HRR gets all the attention. I almost prefer them now that I purchased my Rough Rider.

For me, my .22 SAs are a bit of nostalgia, fun, and cheap to shoot. When I take my serious DAs to the ranger for practice, they're almost always accompanied by at least one SA. I'd never make the mistake of considering my SAs serious defensive weapons, and I'd never make the mistake of considering my .357 "fun" to shoot. A masochist I am not. I don't own a .22 DA revolver, although when I cash in the winning lottery ticket I'll be owning one of S&W's. I can't really say I prefer/like one over the other, AFAIC all .22s are fun guns.

I shoot my DA revolvers and semiauto pistols on more occasions because those are the ones in my 'carry options' for SD in serious social situations (well, except for the NAA mini that plays BUG, sometimes.) Those are also the 'bedside gun' options so I want to be as familiar with them as possible. I do carry the HRR as a 'yard gun' but that is a different situation.

That said, I still put more ammo through the HRR because, although I shoot it less often, I shoot it more per session than the others. If I am just plinking or keeping up basic practice with a .22, I almost always choose the HRR over my semiauto S&W 22A. For this type of shooting, I feel that the SA slows me down and makes me concentrate more on each shot - which has improved my shooting overall no matter which handgun I am shooting.

I guess if I had to choose only one format then overall the DA revolvers would get the nod because all of mine have exposed hammers - so I can fire them in SA if I choose. Happily, though, I get to own both types.

Oh, and I don't consider myself a masochist but I do think that my .357s are fun to shoot. They just aren't as easy on my wallet as .22s - even using WMR - or even 9mm, for that matter.

I've shot my HRR so much that it seems like I automaticly fire any revolver single action style now days. In fact, when I shot the Judge I was so surprised by the heavy trigger pull that the vendor suggested I shoot it single action. (It was a little more work since it had a bobbed hammer.)

I think I'm going to have to get an inexpensive DA wheel gun just to get used to shooting double action again.

And like everyone else here, my RR always finds a way to go to the range with me. :grin1:

Guess I'm weird. I actually "like " shooting my DA .357. It don't hurt me, it handles great for me, and looks good to boot. I also like my HRR a lot, and think I might one day have a SA .357 to go along with the DA, and for sure will have a Lever gun in the same at some point. I just like the round I guess.

I would not feel under guned with a SA. the only disadvantage for me would be the speed of a reload. and most likely the fight will be over by then! DR

It's not a matter of feeling under gunned, because a .357 will poke the same size hole whether it comes from a DA or SA  . But it's one thing to thumb the hammer at the range, and quite another under stress when the fight-or-flight adrenaline is playing hob with your fine motor skills and a part of your brain is desperately trying to control your sphincter. Any goblin I might meet is probably going to be armed with a Foh-tay or a 9mm with a dozen or more rounds. In the time it takes to cock a SA he could squeeze off at least three shots, and I'm not confident enough to believe I'll put him down with my first one. But that's just me, and I've seen others say they're fine with an SA for EDC.

I always shot DA. Until I tried my friends SA. I fell in love with the SA. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because you need to be more involved during the shooting process. Maybe it's because it brought back memories of all the western's I used to watch.

For home defense, a SA .22 is a million times better than a baseball bat or golf club that some people rely on. Everyone is a tough guy until they have bullet wound.
